The method

From 2,346 companies to a shortlist of 57

Every step narrows the field on evidence from the official register, not opinion. Here is the method applied to a real case, and the three phases it sits inside.

A national register lists thousands of distributors. Fewer than sixty can actually sell your product.

Every Latin American country publishes a register of authorised veterinary products, and that is exactly the trap. It tells you who holds a registration. It does not tell you who imports, who has cold chain and warehousing, who has a field sales force, or who has ever carried a European dossier through the authority before. Choosing the wrong partner does not cost you a fee — it costs you two years and your first-mover position.

Here is the method applied to a real case: a European poultry feed additive entering Colombia. Every step narrows the field on evidence from the register, not opinion. We rebuild this picture for your product category, your target species and your target market.

2,346

Distributors in the Colombian registers

Every company holding an active registration with ICA, across medicines and animal feed.

1,016

Registered for animal feed

The rest hold only veterinary medicines and cannot place a feed additive on the market.

295

With a real poultry book

Poultry is a meaningful share of their portfolio — not one stray registration. Most of the large names are pet-food companies and drop out here.

57

And already importing from Europe

They have carried a European dossier through ICA before. This is the shortlist worth verifying by hand.

Manufacturers already registered in these markets, by country of origin — 3,790 tracked across 49 countries
734 European Union 261 United States 252 Brazil 199 Argentina 153 China 131 Mexico 114 Peru 55 India 52 United Kingdom 30 Uruguay 22 Switzerland
Within the EU: Spain 227 · France 137 · Germany 83 · Netherlands 80 · Italy 56 · Belgium 51

Three phases, from market picture to registered product

Each phase stands alone. Start where you need to, stop when you have what you came for.

1

Market landscape

Where your product category actually stands in Colombia: how many competing registrations exist, which multinationals already hold them, how crowded the shelf is, and whether the regulatory pathway is worth the effort. You get a clear go / no-go before spending anything on partner search.

2

Distributor shortlist and vetting

We score every candidate on four signals drawn from the register — EU-sourcing capability, portfolio depth, category fit and diversification — then do the part the data cannot: reference calls with their existing suppliers, commercial standing, warehousing and cold-chain reality, and whether their sales force reaches your customer. You receive a ranked shortlist with the reasoning, not a list of names.

3

Registration and market entry

ICA registration under Resolución 10204 de 2017: dossier compilation, legalisation and translation requirements, submission, and management of ICA queries through to approval. We stay on the file afterwards for renewals and post-approval changes.

Regulatory judgement, not a trade directory

Four things that are hard to copy.

1

Built on the official register

Our distributor map is derived from ICA’s own database of veterinary medicines and biologicals — 9,208 registrations, 8,149 of them active. Not scraped from LinkedIn, not bought from a list broker, and refreshed when ICA republishes.

2

The regulatory gate is the point

Anyone can hand you names. The question that decides your entry is whether a given partner can actually carry your dossier through ICA, and how long it will take. That is a regulatory judgement, and it is the one we are qualified to make.

3

Both sides of the table

DGF is run by a veterinarian who worked in regulatory affairs inside a national competent authority and then in industry, is Colombian, and is based in Hamburg. We read a Colombian distributor and a European quality department in their own terms.

4

No translator in the room

We work in English, Spanish and German throughout: your technical documentation, the ICA correspondence, and the commercial negotiation with the distributor.
